See how Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets an AI assistant talk to real devices in a safe, standardized way.
Stepping through a realistic incident‑response scenario: I’ve just inherited a mismanaged environment with six Juniper SRX firewalls and one Palo Alto VM‑100, all running different configurations, policies, and software levels. Together, we’ll use MCP‑powered tooling to:
Discover and inventory each firewall, pull configs and health data into a common view, identify drift, risky rules, and inconsistent policies, and gradually standardize and normalize the SRXs and the Palo VM into a clean, operational baseline.
Along the way, you’ll see how MCP clients and servers work: the MCP client talks to the LLM, the LLM chooses MCP tools, and the MCP server runs safe, scoped actions on the firewalls. By the end, you’ll understand not just what MCP is, but how it can help you turn a chaotic multi‑vendor firewall estate into something you can manage, reason about, and automate.
